Not only an adult who can design something, but also a teenager or even a child. In fact, design not an easy job even it is simple, Paul Rand said that “Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated”. So, all of people can be a designer but only some people can be a professional designer. But a professional designer has a difference with amateur designer such as skills, process, and a burden.
A professional designer must has a high expertise. Normally, people who hire a professional designer wants something that looks fabulous or spectacular. Of course for satisfy the clients, the designer must has a high expertise and understanding their job. In other hand, an amateur designer doesn’t need a high expertise because usually an amateur designer only work for her/his self not for other people. And usually people don’t have a high expectation for an amateur designer.
The other difference is process. When amateur designer is starting to design, the amateur designer probably will get some trouble. In general this trouble come because one don’t have enough expertise. And than usually during this process an amateur designer will think to stop it in the middle of process. In another way, professional designer has a difficult process with some trouble too. However a professional designer never think to stop the process, but a professional designer will think about solve all of the problem and make it clear.
The last is a burden. A professional designer has a lot of burden because not only make an awesome design, but also must to satisfy the client, make their self proud, how people see it, and other burdens. In this case an amateur designer has a less of burden than professional designer. Generally, an amateur designer only have some burdens like how to do it well, or how to make an amazing design. That is contrast with professional designer.
Overall, there are a lot of difference between amateur and professional designer, but at the end ‘design is complicated’ even all of people can do it. So, become a professional or an amateur designer it will be okay. The most important is keep trying and contributed ideas to the world of design because like Steve Jobs said “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works”.
