In here i want to review or summarize the week 3, color, texture, and imagery.

There are 5 types of Ditigal Image Files

  • TIFF (Tagged Image File Fomat)
  • JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
  • GIF (Graphic Interchange Format )
  • PNG (Portable Network Graphic)
  • RAW Images files

another type of image is PSD, PSD is created and saved in Adobe Photoshop usually contain layers, which make modifying the image much more easier to handle.

LOSSY AND LOSSLESS COMPRESSION

Lossy compression is image format that don’t store a perfect copy of the original image (small size)

Lossless compression is store an exact “pixel by pixel” representation of the image but requires more space.

 

Vector (SVG) or Raster (PNG) images

Vector  is based on mathematical calculations and Raster is made of a certain number of pixel, or individual blocks, to form an image.

so, the conclusion is every image types have their own advantages and their disadvantages. With knowing the image types it make people more easy to choose the best types for their own needs.

Images as Narratives

Visual stories are a powerfully direct method of conveying information, ideas, and cultural wisdom. images tell stories using semiotic, a short of visual grammar.

what is semiotic? seimiotic is a signs/visual cues are combined into patterns that transmit messages to the viewer.

there are some sign types,

  • iconic signs (look like what it represents)
  • symbolic signs (doesn’t look like what it represent and its meaning must be learnt)
  • indexical signs (a clue that links meanings)
