Ghost In The Shell is a movie based on the Japanese manga of the same name by Masamune Shirow. Set in a near future when the line between humans and robots is blurring, the plot follows the Major (the main character), a cyborg supersoldier who yearns to learn her past. This film uses many kinds of technology, from hologram until the networked brain. In here I only talk about one technology from Ghost In The Shell that attracts my attention which is the body enhancements.

In this film, the human can improve their body skill by adding artificial limbs that made of a machine. For example, in here the main protagonist, Major or Motoko Kusanagi, she has a cyborg body. The only things that made her a human only her brain. Major brain still working so she has her control to control everything in the body. Not only the protagonist, but also another character in this film also has body enhancements. Batou, the one who always work with Major, has an enhancement because his limbs are all cybernetic prosthetics. The best one is the enhancements of his eyes. Batou’s eyes can look everything clearly and with high specs. How they work by connecting all of the system in the technology into the brain. So, they artifical limbs has the similar way to work with the real limbs. Ghost In The Shell use many body enhancements, and in this movie, body enhancements become something that normal.

Body enhancements already become something that usual.  In anime, Fullmetal Alchemist becomes the one that uses body enhancements. They called it automail, a cyborg body part that connects with human nerve system so we can control it. On another anime, in One Punch Man, there is one character that has a cyborg body but still has the human mind like the Ghost In The Shell protagonist. These body enhancements not only happen in anime but also already happen in real-life. Nigel Ackland is one proof that body enhancements are real. Nigel lost his arm during an accident at work, Nigel Ackland got an artificial hand. His incredibly advanced robotic prosthetic might be the closest thing to “The Terminator” that exists today. Another proof of this technology is Neil Harbisson. He is the one who got eyeborg. Neil was born with achromatopsia or extreme colorblindness that meant he could only see in black-and-white.  But now he can see color use specialized electronic eye, or eyeborg, which renders perceived colors as sounds on the musical scale.

In medical word this artifical body part called as Prosthesis.  Prosthesis  is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part, which may be lost through trauma, disease, or congenital conditions. So, actually, body enhancements already used in medical world. For prosthesis limbs are powered with motors and can be controlled in several way. The switch control method allows a patient to move his or her prosthetic device by toggling switches or buttons. Another way to control the prosthetic limbs is by listening to muscles remaining in the residual limb that the patient can still contract. Prosthetics is one of the advidance that human already develop the technology like in Ghos In The Shell. Body enhancements are something that possible even in real life. People try to develop this idea because it can help many people who need it. It means that in this era body enhancements is something that already has a role.

For the assignment Intro to Technology, I am choosing umbrella as the object of the develop technology. Umbrella is an object that has a function to protect human from the rain or sunlight. This object has a long history from the beginning of ancient Egypt until now. In the first time, people use a palm leaf as an umbrella to protect the queen from the sunlight. As the times goes by the function of umbrella become to protect human from the rain. People nowadays think that umbrella is an important thing, because of that reason the research try to develop umbrella into a new thing that can make people more interest to use umbrella.

Here I choose Oombrella, smart umbrella that can give an notification to the owner 15 minutes before rain and if the owner left the Oombrella behind. This is an innovation that can make people more interest for using umbrella.

At @America organized an exhibition about 3D printing. 3D printing is a process of making a three-dimensional solid object from a digital file quickly and easily. In this exhibition, some of the creators of the 3D printer come and showing their product. The first one that I remember is Eliketronics. Eliketronics is a company that running in electronic things. This company is a new company. The one that I remember is in this company they selling the 3D pen. The 3D pen is a pen that can make your writing or your drawing become a three-dimensional solid object. People just need an imagination if want to use this. I tried it once but it fails. Eliketronic also sells the 3D printing. In this company, the prices is not too expensive, because their target is a young businessman. This their catalog,

Another company that attends that exhibition is Autodesk. This company also selling something, but they are selling the software for 3D design. If people want to print a 3D printing, they must make the file in 3D design. So, in here, Autodesk came with the software that called Fusion 360. It is the easier application for 3D design. For students or people who have a low salary, this application is free. Just registration or give self-information

The last one, I forgot the name of the company, but this is the only one company that selling 3D scanner. The 3D scanner is a scanner but to scan an object that has three-dimensional form. So, if people want to print something that already exists, just scan it with a 3D scanner and then print it with 3D printing.

From this exhibition, I learn many things about 3D. I never think that technology has been growing rapidly. I never know before about 3D scanner. From this exhibition, i learn something that make me know more than before.
